Samsung Galaxy S2 continues to dominate sales figures

samsung galaxy s 2 Samsung Galaxy S2 continues to dominate sales figuresSamsung’s Galaxy S2 continued being the best-selling handset in the UK throughout November as Apple’s newly released iPhone 4S failed to claim the top spot.

Despite shifting four million handsets in the first weekend of its release, the fifth generation iPhone – which was released in Britain on 16 October – failed to out-sell the Galaxy S2 in November.

The Android phone has now dominated sales for the eighth month running with over 10 million units sold since May.

This trend has been reflected on the UK’s largest mobile comparison site CompareMobileDeals.com, the Samsung Galaxy S2 has consistently been the most searched for phone since it was released.

Acute stock shortages were reported by retailers as Apple decided to focus on prioritising stock for the Black Friday sales bonanza in America as well as several launches in Asia.

A recent report by research firm Gartner found that more than 50% of all smartphones sold around the world were Android devices.

Sales surge for Apple and Nokia

apple iphone4S Sales surge for Apple and NokiaAlmost half of all mobile phone sales in October were Apple while Nokia has increased its market share, according to latest sales figures.

The latest smartphone data from Kantar Worldpanel ComTech shows that Apple upped its share to 42.8% of all mobile phones, overtaking Android just for the month of October. Overall, Android has 46% of the market, down 3%.

However 75% of Apple’s sales were from existing customers upgrading their handsets.

This is seen as a relief to other smartphone operators as users’ unwavering loyalty to Apple means they can capitalise on those who do not own a smartphone.

Dominic Sunnebo, global consumer insight director at the panel, said overtaking Android, even for just a month, was “a feat many thought impossible for Apple”.

Mr Sunnebo added: “While unwavering loyalty is clearly great news for Apple, it is likely to be a relief for other smartphone operators.

“With Apple predominantly driving sales from within its existing customer base, it leaves the field wide open for the likes of Nokia, BlackBerry, Samsung and HTC to focus on converting the remaining 29 million adults who don’t yet have a smartphone to their brand.”

The figures also show that Symbian’s market share fell 10.2% year-on-year to 3.9%, BlackBerry fell 1.3% to 19.6% while the new Windows Phone 7 OS rose 0.8% to 1% overall.

Meanwhile, Nokia’s Lumia 800 is continuing its increase in sales throughout the month.

WMPowerUser – which closely tracks the progress of the Windows Phone platform – reports that 600,000 new phones have been activated from  11 to 25 November.

As Facebook integration is central to the Windows Phone experience, this information is being seen as a fairly accurate measure of how many phones Windows is selling.

Sales of the Lumia 800 are expected to “slow burn” over the Christmas period, so this upswing in activations may continue instead of spiking and falling.

Samsung vs Apple court date set for March

samsungsvsapple Samsung vs Apple court date set for MarchSome interesting news peeps! A court date has been set for the on-going copyright dispute between Samsung and Apple.

The two phone giants have been locked in a legal battle covering 10 countries over patents for smartphones and tablet computers.

Samsung wants to ban sales of the iPhone 4S in Australia as it claims Apple has infringed its 3G patents.

This case in Australia centres around the South Korea based company’s claim that Apple infringes its 3G wireless intellectual property. It says other “major” firms had sought to licence its technologies but Apple had not.

The US company had wanted the court to hear the case in August so lawyers could prepare their case however the judge rejected the plea and it will now happen in March. They are expected to claim that Samsung demanded unreasonable terms.

Meanwhile the judge, Justice Annabelle Bennett, also ruled that the handset can continue to be sold in the country until the court hearing takes place.

What will happen? Which manufacturer do you prefer? Who knows but what we do know is they both make fantastic mobile phones. Let us know your thoughts and feel free to ask questions.
